How long can I safely use Betnovate?
Betnovate should be used for maximum 2-4 weeks continuously due to its high potency. Prolonged use can cause skin thinning, stretch marks, or systemic absorption. Your doctor may prescribe treatment cycles with breaks or switch to milder steroids for maintenance.
Can I use Betnovate on my face?
Generally, Betnovate is too strong for facial use and can cause perioral dermatitis or skin thinning. Face skin is thinner and more sensitive. Your doctor may prescribe a milder steroid for facial conditions unless specifically directed otherwise.
What's the difference between cream, ointment, and lotion?
Cream works best for weeping or moist conditions and absorbs quickly. Ointment is ideal for dry, thick, scaly patches as it provides better penetration and moisturization. Lotion is preferred for hairy areas like the scalp where cream or ointment would be messy.
Can I stop using Betnovate suddenly?
For areas treated longer than 2 weeks, gradual withdrawal is recommended to prevent rebound flares. Your doctor may suggest reducing frequency (twice daily to once daily to every other day) or switching to a weaker steroid before stopping completely.
